when it rains it…

13 December 2008

the list of not-so-much win in my life at the moment:

  • my wrist
  • the pain, from my wrist
  • the boredom, since I can’t really do much because of said wrist
  • medical bills from the past month or so (my back, then this…)
  • the pain, from being female & my uterus’ stupid monthly habit
  • the minor (sexual) frustration, from the obvious (*ahem* still single)
  • thinking your have a chance with someone, who appears to be interested in you, but finding out they’re in a relationship

but hey, at least I finally sold my car. (too bad all that money goes to my mom since I owe her for, well, college.)

edit: as of 10:30pm – and my friend got into a car accident on his way to pick me up for a party tonight.. he’s fine, but the car is totaled.

the boot saga comes to a close …. maybe

3 December 2008

So this weekend while roaming around Funcie with my brother, I find the boots.

hi3_01Tucked away in a corner display at a sports footware store that I had ignored the day before… There were the boots.  They met my criteria: near-knee high, warm, at least a little fake fur (if I wasn’t going for the popcorn boots by rocket dog), and had some traction.  And well, I wanted them to be under $100… preferably around $50… On sale for $80.  I could deal with that, I liked them.

But there was fail.  They only had one pair left, and it was a 6.5 … I need a 7.5 … with winter socks and all, there was no way of squeezing my foot into those boots.  So, rather than looking at the other colors, I decided to check out other locations of this store… a quick trip online would help.

Online I was faced with major fail… as in the only way to purchase these boots in the Lakes area I had available to me would be to order them online and wait for them to arrive… and pay shipping.  These boots were just sold out.  Apparently I’m not the only one who enjoys decent style.  I was okay with my lack of originality in my choice — so what if half of the other girls were wearing them… okay, half of the other girls are still wearing Uggs… only like, an eighth would be wearing these… I still wanted them.   Gray and Pink, with fuzzies.  What could be better?

So, in one last effort… while waiting with my mom to meet my dad for the grand trip back north (aka home), we decided to check out the local mall, since we had time.  With luck, they had the right store…. but fail.  No gray and pink.  So, I ate my pride and my dismay and went with my second choice:
hi3_02White, gray and silver.  With Fuzzies.  I can live with this.  The only big fear is that here in the city, well, snow around the roads and sidewalks turn brown… occasionally black… so I’ve come to terms that these will as well by the end of the season.

The Nike Hi 3 boots are decent.  Definitely warm.  But well, not amazingly comfortable.  I’ve already lost some skin thanks to their design in back.  The sneaker style back piece is firm… and well, it just rubs off the skin on my ankle.  It was actually really painful the first day — and there is a nice little red stain inside one of the boots now.  But I’ve wrapped my ankles, and I’m still trying them.   If my feet get worse, if I loose more skin, well, then that will be the sad end to my boots.  I’m not looking forward to that.  (Too bad my little sister has out grown me in shoes, otherwise I could just pass them down… )

Anyway.  This is the first time I’ve had Nike’s since about 8th grade… maybe even 5th grade… But they were the first boots I found that actually stopped me and grabbed my attention.  We’ll see how they hold up.

I live under a rock.

Seriously.

I feel like I am the only person who hasn’t seen the Dark Knight.
At least in my social group.

And for the past couple of weeks I’ve seen countless pictures of my friends, and others, dressed up like the late Heath Ledger… Pretty much always with the same caption, “Why so serious” … !!! (yes, at this point I can only express my frustration through punctuations.)

It’s not like I didn’t try to see the movie.  The Dark Knight has been one giant epic fail for me.

– Opening day, my roommates go without me.  All three of them (this was before Libby moved in).  I mean, they went to a matinee, and I was at work (and even worked until 7 that day).. but still, I kinda would have liked to have been invited or known about it.. we could have waited ONE day so I could go… but I got over it with the assumptions that one or more of them might be up for seeing it again.

– Actually going to a theater with Libby and Zach, this time, I really think I’m going to get to see it.  We get there, and well, they only have one seat left.  We give up and walk about Navy Pier.  We also discuss making another attempt later — which doesn’t happen.  L & Z see it together later.  I’m not disappointed because dating people do that whole “us” time thing.  And I try to encourage that sometimes too.

– I ask Adam if he’ll go since only two theaters in the area are playing it.  Unfortunately he’s seen it like 3 times or something, twice on IMAX.. so he’s not all that interested.

– Dan invited me up to the far north to see it with another friend of his.  Said friend ends up not wanting to see a movie with me, or maybe just in general.  Movie doesn’t happen, and Dan feels bad… but I assure him that I’m okay because well, it’s not the first time and it’s really okay.

Basically after that I gave up.

So I still haven’t seen it.  Not that it’s a huge thing.  I generally don’t go out to movies.  I like theaters — and well, love theater popcorn (even after working in a theater for just over 2 years in high school) — I’m just kinda cheap.  Well, let me rephrase that.  I’m selectively cheap.  I’ll spend money on clothing, shoes, books, and video games… But for some reason paying for a movie ticket is different.  However, if the right person asked me, I might be willing to change.

what angle should you run to maximize your chance to stay alive?

So. If I say Velociraptor, either of two images should enter your mind….

raptor #1

raptor #1

raptor #2

raptor #2

However, being the person that I am, I love to see what the wiki says about things. Typically I like to think that the majority of entries haven’t been influence by some television comedy news host.

But low and behold, when I went to gain more information about this creature, I get this:

apparently what velociraptors looked like...

apparently what velociraptors looked like...

as compared to a human...

as compared to a human...

Yes my friends, according to science now, this little runt of a bird is closer to what the velociraptor looked like. I for one, am highly disappointed.

I’ll still give this little guy the benefit of the doubt in that I’m sure it would still kick my ass any day.
